I was taking a shower when a "book idea"popped into my head (I was probably mid-shampoo) and I made a mental note to remember the idea. When I stepped out of the bathroom, wearing just a towel, I said to my roommate, "I just had a great idea for a book," and continued to type frantically on my laptop. Her gaze stayed on my, expecting me to elaborate, but I just looked at her and said, "You'll see if it's good if the book gets published," and she said, "Okay."
I would really love to work on a book, but don't think I have time. I am taking on another 18 credits next semester, along with a job, and then trying to do a 5 week program in Rome, that already runs into the first 2 weeks of camp. Then I want to leave for France in august, to spend 5 months there, studying abroad, and then mayby my spring semester in Rome.
So basically, what I am saying is that if I want to write this book, it's going to have to wait until may/june 2008. But then, (yes, there's more) I am going to have to get an internship somewhere, in whatever field I end up in. So that takes up summer '08. Then, my senior year in college I will be doing my dissertation and capstone internship and jumping through all of the necessary hoops to graduate in the spring of '09. Upon graduation, I am hoping to be accepted into Teach for America, and will then spend my next two years (hopefully) in rural North Carolina. Upon completion of that project, I will be free to do as I please. So.... if this book is going to happen it just has to wait until may/june 2011.
Wow. May or june 2011 is the next time I will look at my life and say "What now?" I hate plans. I hate that I have everything laid out ahead of me. I kind of just want to drop out and travel and write novels while starving in the cafes of Paris.
peace, love, and ponies.

Do you think I PLANNED to write the Mandy Menu? No.
Write your book now! Great literature comes from life. Life doesn't have a schedule. It might take you forever, but great books are cultivated over time and grow with the author.
Also, COME HOME!
