"Life is a preservation project. Our instinct for preservation plays out in everything from the depth of our breaths to an affection for bricks. Even as we flail and cling, trying to bottle time, to save it, we live only through its expenditure. Memory is a means of possession, but eventually, the greatest grace is foung in letting go."

"I am happy here, but my gravitation to place has always been balanced by my need to move. I crave a contrapuntal mix of shiftlessness and stability. In bed at night, I can hear the trucks out on the highway. Sometimes a driver drifts across the white line, and when the tires hit the rumble strip, the rubbery howl makes me want to drive away in the night, fills me with the urge to go west, makes me think the finest sort of freedom is found at sunrise in a South Dakota rest stop. Contentment, it turns out, can be a matter of global positioning."

Encouragement
It is November 12, and I am finally writing my first paper this semester. Thing is, I'm out of practice and can't focus. I want to know what you do to focus on tedious tasks, 'cause perhaps it will help me as well. Also, you aren't allowed to leave this blog without writing your top three "encouraging" songs in the comment box, please.

Kiss
When you were in elementary school, was there a girl who ran around the playground kissing all the boys during recess? We didn't have one at my school. But there is one at my school now and she needs to be told that, while the flirtatious behavior was cute at age 7, it isn't so cute now.
I'll never understand the "Sex and the City" mentality, as much as I would like to embrace it. I cannot imagine sleeping with somebody, just for the sake of it, and enjoying it if I didn't care about them. And what's really absurd about this is that I am the last of a dying breed; me, with my morals and standards and what my mother defines as my "irrational need to live in The Holiday or The Notebook."
Well you know what? I'd rather be single until the day I die than settle. Maybe it is irrational, and maybe I will never love anybody as much as I love the city, but at least I have the guts to wait for what I think I deserve. I want my one, great love; my great romance, my amazing story that my grandchildren will tell their children. I want my legendary love story.
My parents were engaged 4 weeks after they met, and that's what I want. I want to know within the first few days that it will last for life. I don't want to date somebody for so long that we decide marriage is the next step. I want to meet somebody and realize, between a few late night talks and long drives, that either our minds will wander back to those talks and drives for the rest of our lives, or we will find a way to be together.
Call me irrational or cliche. Chalk it up to one too many chick flicks. But I cannot see my life jumping from 21 to 81 without a moment when I look down the block and see that long lost somebody, drop my purse and sprint down the sidewalk to jump into his arms and wrap my legs around his waist, his face in my hands. I simply cannot.

To keep up with MLA...
Ten minutes ago...
#1 Adriana and I were sitting on the couch. I spotted something under the coffee table, and leaned over to pick it up...
Me: "What's this?" (pick up a quarter sized piece of something, toss it in my hand. adriana and I make eye contact, both realizing that it is poop. i immediately drop said poop)
Adriana: "Oh my God..."
Me: (still hunchd over, frozen in place) It's not like he (Milo) just pooped out here. It's like it was stuck to his butt and he ran around and it fell off."
Adriana: (in her most serious, concerned voice), "Dingleberries."
and then we laughed hard. because we are both tired and delusional.
#2 Still sitting on the couch, minus the cat poop on the floor...
Me to Milo when he walks in from the kitchen licking his chops: "Did you just have a midnight snack?"
Adriana: (in her best asshole cat voice) "Fourthmeal."
again, hysterical laughter because we are delusional.
peace, love, and ponies.
